Anybody ever break a pullstud? Am i safe to use used ones?
Hi guys, im wondering how many people here have ever broken a pullstud and damaged a spindle? Is it common or just a marketing threat to sell more pullstuds?
Im just starting out and bought most my tooling used from all over the place and i have a bunch of used pullstuds. Id love to use the ones i have obviously to keep cost down but I've heard storys of studs snapping and taking out spindles. Is this really a big concen? Am i safe enough to use unknown pullstuds on light duty tools like small er16 collet holders?
Is this less of a problem with Fadals? The studs look to be more beefy then the haas ones.

IMO, you're playing with fire by using "used" pullstuds. I've broken pullstuds on cnc routers and it's not a pretty sight...or sound for that matter. I'd buy new and have that peace of mind.

I've never broken one. The most likely culprit would be someone who thinks you mush apply massive torque to secure the pull stud. There is a torque spec but I don't know what it is off the top of my head. Considering as soon as you install a new stud it is "used" I have used "used" studs on some of my tools. I have swapped holders with other machines that use the same cat40 but different studs.
