    Memory issue

I just got a new memory card for my machine, going to 4 meg from a 128k card. When I check free memory it only sees 233k?

I zerod the memory prior to the switch and reset all of the parameters in setp.

    Any ideas?

Oh the card came from CNCpros, who apparently spoke with Fadal and made sure the software versions were compatible.

It seems to work fine otherwise, I'm running a part right now matter of fact.

Try loading a program that's a meg or so, see if it takes it.

I tried to load one that was 210k and it would not take it. Memory full error.

This is a -4 system, I'm wondering if the -4 is limited to how much memory it can take.

The problem is that you can not use mega memory with a "-4" system. The max you can have is 422K. A "-5" system is required for anything beyond 422K.

You can run DNC from the hard drive using the Fadal Memory Manager. Place the CNC side at Enter Next Command. On the PC side launch the Memory Manager and select the "Run from disk" option. Select the drive and directory where the file is NOW then double click on the file name that you want to run. Click Continue. Follow the screen promts.
If you need to do a mid tape start, call me and I'll walk you thru it.

Does that run through the 422 or do I need to run a cable from the back of the pendant to the RS 232 port on the rear of the machine?

    nervis,

We use the memory manager to run big programs from the hard drive. No problem. No external cable needed...

We put them on the hard drive via that cd that you and I both installed in the PC. Remember that option that Fadal said they did not have a kit for... (They would not even quote it for me). And when I called Fadal service dept, they said no one there had ever heard of putting CD in the PC.

I gotta wonder what Neal thinks about the new control...
    Keep up the good work,

Hey Scott. So I load a program to the hard disk, say the desktop from the cd drive. I don't have any problems doing that, how do I configure the memory manager, and the cnc side to run the program? Is this DNC or a run from the memory of the hard disk?

Could you give me a brief walkthrough?

    Nervis,

It will be DNC as the program is not transfered into cnc memory.
For that you would have to have enough cnc memory to accept the file... (that is why you get the out of memory message).

It's really not that bad running a program dnc, it's definetly not as easy to do a mid program start. And since I don't run the cnc now, I just program them. Believe me, it's enough for me just to keep up with the programming tasks. I don't have time to get out on the CNC as much as I'd like sometimes.

I think Neal mentioned that you could call him with your questions...

    Good luck,
    Scott_bob
