    Hi

Just wanted to say that a local tech guy has got a price on a new head casting, there is is one available, just one hitch though, its only 12,397.00 plus freight!
I guess that they might as well just scrap it now rather then wait 20 years from now! I have to ask myself who else would be crazy enough to fix an old POS like this anyways

    Hello,

that is allot of money for new spare part.... Would be an option to buy another FADAL (let we say with burned motor or something )? Perhaps would be cheaper.

Hi, it's probably been in stock for so long it's accumulated an interest component by way of the accountant's idea of cost factors......eventually it'll get thrown out for scrap value......you could make an offer for scrap value now.......a $100 would not be too unrealistic for scrap cast iron provided it had been machine as a spare part.

You can go with a used head casting. You can even have new turcite and straps installed. But if you want to scrap it let me know

We have had good luck with our Fadals milling mostly soft steel and aluminum up to 5 axis. We are always looking for spare parts :) If you have a broken down Fadal give a shout.

You can Fix that Head... Trust me i have done it before its really not that hard. Mill out the broken area and make a steel replacement for the tab.And attach it to the Existing head with probably 5/16-18 cap screws . i can get the drawings for the head if you need em. Or easier yet put the head up on a surface plate and map out the hole locations.

Oh and use some liquid steel on the new tab to hold it in place so it doesn't move after you bolt it on.

You can get it to move for sure. Will it hold up to all the thrust that big DC motor puts out without deflecting, snapping the cast iron where the bolts go in and totally ruining the casting? That is the $5000 question. Any 16" Y fadal head casting would work, why would you risk it?

There's a head casting on ebay right now. I'll have to find the link.

Just Curious, How did this turn out , and were you able to get the machine back and cutting, and results of any Problems with said Now. Looked like a well planned Repair, Very cost effective, although Misleading. Appreciate your input......Are you Happy..
