I have an older 4020 that the motor pulley was damaged on, when the high speed range idler was allowed to run on the pulley after the belts broke. Does anyone know how the pulley comes off? There is three tapped holes in the face of the pulley and a key but no set screws, and it does not appear to be a taper-lock. I'm hoping to be able to remove the pulley and clean up the flanges, as it is the older style using v-belts and they are no longer availble. |

I JUST REREAD YOUR THREAD THE THREE TAPPED HOLE WITHOUT ANY SCREWS PUT SOME SCREWS IN THE HOLES AND SEE IF THE PULLY COMES LOSE THAT MY BE WHY THE HOLES ARE TAPED JUST TRY IT SLOWLY AND A LITLE PRESS FIT IS WHAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE JUST GO SLOW OR CALL YOUR FADAL DEALER THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER IT AS YOU NEED A BELT ANYWAY

I was figuring it is possible that it's a light press fit but it does seem odd to me that the only thing holding the pulley in place is it being pressed on but I'll give it a shot in the morning and see if it moves. Thanks

I tried contacting both Fadal and my local dealer the local dealer has no clue, and I'm yet to hear anything from fadal. So far the closest I've gotten to any help from them is to tell me they no longer carry that pulley and I would need to buy the upgrade. They quoted me $2050 cdn. ($1750 us.) for the upgrade and they were nice enough to offer free shipping. I have purchased 6 matched v- belts from a local supplier for $48 cdn.

I Would Think If You Don't Have A C-clip. Then It Just A Press Fit .much Like A Flywheel On A Grass Cutter. The Part Is On A Shaft All Forces Are On The Belt So If The Tapped Hole Have Nothing In The And There No Clip On Top The Only Othe Place You Could Have A Set Screw Would Be In Either The V Of The Pully Or Below The Flange Of The Pully But That Seems Hard To Believe Best Of Luck And I Realy Do Not See Any Prombles Just Go Slow You May Be Able To Mount A Inidcator On A Magnet Base And See If A Little Pressure Move The Pully Up

I have seen the Fadal tech lay a propane torch so that it hits the c-bore of the pulley. When a wet finger sizzlws he lifted it off with a gloved hand. The alum. pulley expands 3x the rate of steel. To install heat pulley same temp aprox 250 deg. You must line up a mark down in side the pulley c-bore with a line on the spindle shaft. This is for tool change orentation.

I just replaced my posi drive pullys with the new cogged polychain pullys. A propaine torch wouldn't even work. I had to bust out the o/a rosebud to get it hot enough. to install the pullys you need to heat them too. They make a tool to help get the pullys in the right position while there cooling off. I have my old pullys if your interested. I'm not sure if they will fit but they do have the two pully ranges. My machine is a 94 vmc15. Good luck.
