Hi Guys, I had a vmc 15 that had rigid tapping which I sold unfortunately. My new machine is a trm which cannot have rigid tapping. I have been tapping by hand. Could someone please explain what is compression tapping. Is this an option for tapping on my machine? Thanks Mark |

| Hey Mark , I do not know anything about a TRM machine . Can your spindle switch direction in a tapping cycle ( CW, CCW ) ? If so You need a tension / compression tapper , which means that the tap can move up or down to makeup for any difference in timing between the rpms and the feed rate . |

| Use a tension / compression holder. If the control is the standard 88hs it should work. I used that a few times before I got rigid tap. Pretty much through holes only though, blind holes will give you headaches (and lots of broken taps). The code to make the machine tap (non rigid) is in the manuals. |
