    weak monitor - VMC15

I have a 94 VMC15XT with the 88HS control - the monitor seems very weak and out of focus. I have tweaked the brightness up as much as I can but the focus will just not come in. I am thinking its time for a replacement.

Has anyone ever replaced the CRT with a newer LCD flatscreen, or anything? I happen to have a flatscreen LCD monitor that was going to go on another retrofit but Id rather get the Fadal monitor readable. I also have regular PC monitors available..... just looking to hear what has been done to replace or upgrade the old CRT on these........

    Thanks
    Scott

Yes that will work! The main issue is loosing the signal strength IIRC. With the power boost you should be ok.
We have had good luck with our Fadals milling mostly soft steel and aluminum up to 5 axis. We are always looking for spare parts :) If you have a broken down Fadal give a shout.

I also have a wonky crt. Does anyone know of an LCD/LED that fits well in the pendant. I know there was one mentioned in an older thread, but it is no longer available.

I used to repair TV's befor the throw away society entered the world, anyway when a tube was failing in focus and brightness, contrast I would boost the tube with a CRT rejuvinator and I suspect that if you can find a TV/Monitor repair man then they would be able to rejuvinate the tube and give you at least another 12 to 2 years life out of it depending how old the monitor is?

It also might be a failing LOPT(Line output transformer),as this would also give these symptoms.there's a way to test this but I'm afraid I'll not diverse the how as the LOPT has voltage of 1.5kv and above, had a few belts in the past off one of these in the past...good job I have quick reflex.

Henry - would one of the problems you mention also contribute to the poor focus? I try to adjust the focus but see no improvement no matter how I crank the pot.
