help with vmc40

hello i just bought a vmc40 and i had to remove the z servo motor to get it threw my grage door, well it was off i played with the x ball screw to see how much torq it took to lift the head"just playing around" well i bolted it back together and am waiting on my 3ph inverter i was going threw the cold start procedure and well im concerend the controller things the head is some where its not,so is a resolver basicly stupied ie it only sences motion or doesnt have a set value for a given position?? if so its going to be way off??
also is spindle coolent and flood coolent the same?? it has a spingle chiller but it aperes to use the same tank as flood??

You need to just start it up and see where it lands. The problem you may have caused is that the resolver could be 180 degrees off, maybe not you have a 50-50 chance. If it won't line up for cold start just power down, take off z axis motor and rotate the shaft of the z axis motor 180 degrees. The you should be able to cold start by lining up all of the marks.

If it is still out pull the z axis cap under power and loosen the one screw holding the resolver in place, rotate it untill the z axis CS marks line up.

If you did not move the servo shaft you should not have any problems.

I think the old 40s would circulate flood coolant through the head, someone with one could chime in here as I'm not positive on that detail.

If you have a true chiller you should have a little fridge cabinet and seperate container for Dow Frost.

I have an older 40 here.

The chiller is on the back of the machine, self contained. Nothing to do with the flood setup.

As to the Z: when you power it up, jog it until the Z CS mark aligns. Do a CS and the Z will go somewhere close to home. The toolchange routine will show any effects of the Z being off.

If still original, it is a three-nub connector between the motor and the screw. Try removing the motor and turning the screw 120dg then reconnecting. It should be VERY obvious to see when the tool changer is the right height!

thx, but one more question

well it definetly has coolent going threw the head there are too black hoses from the head to "radiator" box with fans that is on the bottom right of the mech, it is not connected to the flood i thoght it was due to a hole that alows coolent to flow to a troft to the other side,i thoght this was part due to the radiator for the chiller is mounted just to the side of that,,, so where due i fill the chiller?? there is a small a/c unit on the side of the comp box but i belive it only cools the computer??? thx chris

also

thx on the z stuff but when i said i moved the z axis i moved it alot basical drove he head down but hand so the head/cable rail would clear so basicly im of about 10in, will this matter when i jog to cs and hit cs wil it just zero the resolver"ie only move like.5in" or is this thing going to move the 10 in?? if so i could cs with th servo off and then manully move the head to the mark and reinstall the servo??

The drop of the Z does not matter - jog to CS position run a CS and see where the control moves the head (Just as Shizzle said earlier) if it moves noticably from the line (assuming the line is correct) you will need to rotate the coupling 120 degree and try again (repeat if necesary). The tool change is the real test of correct positioning.
The chiller cabinet is around back and on the opposire side of the control cabinet, your compressed air and way lube should be right beside the chiller cabinet. Chiller uses ONLY "Dowfrost" and distilled water mixture.
