    Unhappy hicup with ATC

This evening I had a problem that I have never had before with the 1995 5020Fadal. I had a tool change that failed. (page 43 says that the ATC has failed) The ATC picked up the tool from the spindle but did not advance to the next tool so the ATC retreated to HOME position and closed. I now have a tool in the holder where it needs to be empty. I know how to fix this with a HAAS but for the life of me I can't get the ATC to stop with the door open before it crashes into the spindle.

I could not tell yet if there are any other problems. It has been running really well for the whole 12 hours today and in fact all last week also. What caused this problem I am not sure until I can get the ATC unloaded and do some testing. I did not see the failure as I was running another machine across the room. I just noticed that the 5020 was not machining, there was no crash or anything

    Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

    Thumbs up

I just finished a great chat session with Brian from FADALCNC.com in Idaho.

This what he told me to do--

at a next command line prompt, holding down the CW turrent key did move the turrent to an open slot. watch out for these little black plastic pucks that close the turrent openings to chips.
Once you are lined up with an open tool slot

    key in :
SETTO Enter this will set that tool pocket to tool 1

    key in :
TC,1 Enter this will position the ATC under the spindle with an open door

Press CCW until the real Tool 1 is under the spindle, Press MANUAL to load that tool

    key in :
SETTO Enter this will set this tool pocket again to tool 1

Everything should be back in order, don't forget to check your tool lengths in case you lost your HOME Positions as I did and had to relocate those too.

Thanks again to all that helped or offered help.
