4th axis add on

We have a Fadal 3016 with a MB control. How difficult is it to add a 4th axis?
Any idea of cost? Our machine was not prewired.
Thanks,
Techman

4th axis

we need more info is this an ac or dc motor machine(round or square motors).and do you already have a rotary you want to use? if you do does it have 1 large round cable connector or 2 connectors not including the air line.depending on the combo you will need at least the internal wire harness, amp, and control card+eproms.the install is not hard and parts are available price depends on what you need .

The 3016 machine with an MB control, I assume you mean the Fanuc 18i MB5 control, will always be an AC servo machine. No Fadal Fanucs had a DC servo. Your rotary MUST also be an AC servo motor.

My fault- It is a Fadal 32 MP control. It does have square shaped AC servos. I do not have a rotary head. We will have to buy everything as the machine was never equiped. At this time I am just trying to get an idea of cost so I can ask for the money in next years budget. ( this is a college and everything works at a snails pace )

You'll need an axis card with software, amplifier card, wiring harness if you're machine is not pre-wired, both motor cables, and a complete rotary with motor. You can either get an AC or DC rotary and get the corresponding parts to match. You can have a DC rotary working on your AC machine. When you're ready to order, feel free to give us a call. We supply many new rotary tables and have all the necessary components to get your machine up with the 4th axis.

Thanks for the info all. I'm sure it is do-able, the only question is how much.

It depends on where you get the rotary from. You might get lucky and find one online for a couple thousand but if the spindle or gear are damaged, you've got a nice paperweight. We'd be more than happy to inspect and/or rebuild any Fadal rotary table you find. For all the supporting parts you're looking at approximately $3-5k, depending on which route you take (AC or DC).
