Sealant???

I have some small leaks in my machines' enclosures. I've tried silicone sealant, but it doesn't seem to last very long. I would like to know what everyone has found to work best.

Thanks,

There is a pricey caulk called "the Right Stuff" that seems to work quite well. This is available at auto parts places like NAPA. Give it a few hours to cure. Like any other repair, thoroughly clean and dry the area where it will be applied. You might want to mask off the area to make neat lines. The Right Stuff doesn't come off your fingers real easy. I'd probably pull the masking off immediately after the stuff has been applied.

HuFlung has flung the dung correctly again! Silicone products will break down in coolant. They soften over a short time from the oils. The Right Stuff, made by Permatex, is what you want, its about 13 or 14 bucks a tube. The tube looks like a cut in half chauking gun tube. It comes only in black and you can use a regular cheap chauking gun. BTW...read the label carefully as they make another product that has a ladel that looks almost the same but has silicone in it and is a little cheaper. All the auto parts carry it (I think) I got mine at Pep Boys.

Yeah, you guys are right. I have actually used this in the past. I have it in the cheese whiz style can. I get mine from McMaster. I was hoping for something in white...

The original sealant uswed by the machine tool builder is "Stic-a-flex" ( may not be spelled correct)

Wish I knew about this stuff before.

Here's their web site and distributors. Its a polyurethane-based adhesive. Neal do you recall which one it was? There's a bunch of them.

Steve.
