ABOUT TO BLOW THIS 4020 UP.....seriously

we have a used 4020 with a 32mp.

i have spent 2 weeks trying to get this machine up and running correctly.

the major problem is a cannot get any .nc files into the machine. sure, i could prolly line for line it typing it in, but ive got a part that was due over a week ago and my customer is getting pissed.

so far im doing this
using easydnc, ive gone to the machine and hit cd,8 - ta,1 and then click send on the dncsoftware after loading the program and making sure there were percent signs and everything. nothing is happening. i know my cable is good because i can send programs this way all day and twice on sunday to a hwacheon lathe with a fanuc 0-t.

ive tried the DOS side too. that was a huge ordeal. had to find a dos password. it has floppy drives but everytime i insert a floppy disk, the light on the disk drive(s) come one and then a few seconds later i get an error saying disk not ready or something to that effect.

if anyone out here can help me out, i will certainly bow down and praise your name for the rest of time. this is a stupid problem....but it is a problem. i have to work within my means and fadal never was one of them. but i can learn......very quickly.

someone call decker machine at -205-669-0501 and ask for Justin.

thanks

It's probably dirty. You could put in a new one.

cable

you need a null modem in the cable, also go to enter next command and type SETP this brings up the parameters, check the baud rate settings on the cnc and your pc and set them to the same#.this is most likely the issue.if not go to fadalcnc.com and download the manual and go over all the settings for your pc.

The issue with the folppy drive is either the drive itself, the 1270 interface board, the cabling going to the rear cabinet, the "Y" cable from the RS-232 port to the 1030 board or the 1030 board itself.
From what you describe, my thoughts go to the 1030 board as the prime target.

test your 1030 board

I agree with Neal about the 1030 board. I just replaced a 1030 board in my 94 VMC 15. You can run a diagnostics test on your 1030 board from the control if you have a test plug, there might be one in the bottom of the cabinet that the RS 232 port is in. Check out the PDF link. Page 329 will walk you through the diagnostics. Hope this helps
