Hi everyone, I have just found this website and I like the ideas people are coming up with.

I have decided to try and mount my old 1/4 inch router into a stand that can have a drum mounted in the collet for drum sanding (it will be mounted as if in a router table) and also be able to have an 8 or 9 inch sanding disk fitted and stood on it's side.

I still have a lot of basics to work out, mostly sorting accessories like the velcro faced backing plates and stuff but I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

Cheers

Well, I have to break down and ask for help. I picked up a CNC machine today and the problem is, the spindle is motor and belt driven. The motor that drives the spindle is 100 VDC 10 Amp. Finding a power supply is next to impossible, unless I want to take out a 2nd mortgage on the house. So I want to replace the motor with something in the 24 vdc range, 3000 rpm and the power supply to run it. Here's a couple of photos of the current set up. I was told the belt drive was 4:1. Thanks

Hi to all
I am just about done building my router table, for the electrical parts it goes like this: four Kelling 905 Oz/in ( Unipolar wired 640Oz/In ) with belt reduction 3:1 four Gecko 203V and a Pmdx 122 BOB, two limit switch on each axis running with Mach3. Everything is working properly except for the following.

The problem that I'm having is that when I make a Ref All Home the limits seems to be slow to react and the axis passes the limits and when it redraws to set the zero it's always inconsistent sometime it won’t even return enough to return over the limit and when I try to move that axis it triggers the limit switch.
My debounce in Mach is set at zero just in case you might ask, the wiring that I'm using are 20 gauge shielded
Any help would be appreciate

Thank you
PS when I manualy operate the switches everything is ok

The original motors are Nema 23 size and run with 5.4 volts and require 1.5 amps. The machines power supply puts out 50 volts and the drives are rated for up to 2 amps max.
Please let me know if there is something out there that will work well for my machine.

Greetings All
I have just joined the site. I have been doing machine work for many years, as a hobby. I was trained as machinist as a young man but moved into other career directions. I recently read an article by Jerry Pryor, in Home Shop Machinist, about DC motors and contacted him. I had converted a lathe and a drill press over the last several years and the drill press recently developed problems. Jerry had some good ideas for me and also encouraged my to join this site. He has been into CNC for many years and, while I have been tempted, I haven't entered. I'm getting more interested. I see many examples of DIY CNC projects but not much by way of details. Has anyone ever come across articles that take one through the steps of converting a lathe or mill to CNC?
I'd like to get a mechanically sound mill and use some geckos or other drives and mach3. This is strictly for hobby/prototyping etc not production.
I see lot of mills with Centurion 1-5 controls. Anyone know the specs of the servos? Anything else to think about for hobby style retrofit?
My question is: If I machine these from 4140 should I have them thru hardened and tempered, or should I make them from a material that can be case hardened? The bores need a hard surface because they act as races for the needle bearings. Any info./ advice would be appreciated.

Newbie New guy, retro fitting a tracer table......

New guy here, been lurking around for some time...

New guy here, been lurking around for some time now, finally registered. I've just started my CNC retrofit on a Koike IK1500G tracer.......well, whats left of it.

I've cut it down to a gantry style table, and removed all the tracer stuff (all for sale BTW), and took out the ballast weight in the gantry as well. I've been in contact with Tom at CandCNC, looks like I'm going to use him for all my CNC stuff, he seems to get good feedback on here and has been real helpfull.

Its a 5x10 table, that I'm setting up to cut 4x8, after alot of thought and even more reading I decided to change the friction drive over to ball screw drives on both axis with a dual drive gantry.

I ordered my ballscrews yesterday off of Ebay (linearmotion2008, there are a couple threads floating around here that gave his products good feedback, so I took a chance). I bought one 2005 and two 2505's cut to length and machined. I hope I'm not going to regret using ballscrews for the gantry drive, anyone else running them?

I'm trying to figure out how I want to mount my servo's, I've seen a few combined servo mount/bearing block that look really nice and would make for a clean and easy install, but they are either in Europe or not available without a screw assembly. Anyone have any sources for a nice mount? I attached a pic for reference.

I'll post up pics as I go and feel free to speak up if you see I'm about to make any mistakes......I'm a newbie!

Just to introduce my self, im a young engineer (21)who just finished my apprenticeship at the start of the year, dispite this i have a good skill base in CNC programming and CAD/CAM, but still have a long way to come. Currently im wanting to expand my knowledge on true 5 axis machining and construction and editing of post processors. if any one knows of any good reading info on the 2 that would be great.

just last week we have had a rotary head fitted to one of our DMU's, im wanting a post processor to use on this machine so that i dont have to program long hand and can fully utalise its capabilities. how would one go about editing a post processor to add a rotary axis (A). some people may think it might be above me at the minute but i like a good challange and im keen to learn.

any info would be great.
