| thanks woodcam The problem is I have no control of the machine since I have used incompatible USB. With my original USB stick DSP can read the program but doesn't do the job correctly. G-code cannot control spindle rev, XYZ working speed or distance. Does incompatible USB actually corrupt DSP configuration? How did you restore your DSP. Do I need to reconfigure using DSP? Or need to format and reinstall DSP? |

Bananafish, There are two memory segments resident on the DSP, the DSP program and the DSP system settings. An incompatible USB seems to effect the system settings - and if you have not saved those settings (there is a way to transfer them to the USB and than to a host PC as a backup but I have never made the attempt and the procedure is not to clearly documented) so the only way to restore the system settings is to manually go through the system menu options and enter the correct parameters. The Excitech DSP manual documents most of the settings. |

| I haven't had any issues with incompatible USB sticks messing up the system settings in my DSP. The only thing that happened for me is that the DSP can't read the files on the USB stick. I have however used the PC host program to backup my settings. If you are doing this you need to use a laptop that is disconnected from the power (running on batteries) or disconnect the DSP from the machine so that it is powered from the USB port on the computer. Failure to use one of these methods usually creates a short through the DSP letting out the magic smoke. (very hard to reinstall magic smoke) The host program works well, I have used it to save and restore the system settings. There is a backup settings in the drop down menus and it saves a file to your computer hard drive. You select the same file when you update the system settings. Shannon.

| Big S,Woodcam Thank you for your kind reply. I have actually tried to read the file from USB memory which has loads of other files in it. That could have caused the problem. I will try to restore the settings manually and will make a report later on. Thanks again |

Settings for Spindle Set Up on mine are: INPUT SPINDLE ST 2e NUMBER: LINES STATE WHEN SPINDLE IS OFF: DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN LINES STATE WHEN OF 1st GRADE SPEED:UP DOWN DOWN DOWN I notice you appear to have more settings. I only have the two lines. What does the UP DOWN refer to, any idea ? Cheers |

Sounds like you have a different DSP - I have the table top SHG0609 purchased in the second half of 2009. The SHG0609 DSP software provides a choice from six possible speed settings which require six corresponding binary register values (three bits binary for each setting). I thought you had a SHG0609???? |

| Woodcam I have SHG1212 late 2009 model. My spindle set up is same as Inuk's. INPUT SPINDLE ST 2e NUMBER: LINES STATE WHEN SPINDLE IS OFF: DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN LINES STATE WHEN OF 1st GRADE SPEED:UP DOWN DOWN DOWN With those setting above I can't control the spindle via program or DSP. According to DSP user manual we should be able to change spindle speed while running a program by pressing the key (z+ 3)and (z- 7) I have tried without success. What else I can do to make it work? any idea??? |

I have no idea as your DSP software is not the same as mine as it has two settings for speed, mine requires six and incrementing or decrementing the speed is implemented by pressing the Z+ or Z- keys respectively alone which cycles through the six speed settings. Perhaps you can find a 1212 owner who is running without a problem and compare settings. Any luck with Excitech support????? |

| Problem solved ! I had a reply from Excitech.(It was very quick indeed !) Machine is now working perfectly.(I think )The settings I needed to change were INPUT SPINDLE ST 2e NUMBER: to INPUT SPINDLE ST 7e NUMBER: Then 7 lines of setting came up. ( I only had 2 lines before ) The setting I have is 0 down down down down 1 up up down down 2 up down up down 3 up up up down 4 up down down up 5 up up down up 6 up down up up Now spindle speed can be controlled via DSP and program(v-carvpro). >>> Inuk I thins your DSP is same as mine. Try those setting above. |
