U Disk list shows no files

Hey all, novice/first post after bringing home a used 1212. Machine runs exisiting files in the DSP but wont show any when the USB stick (2gb) is connected. I've tried various file types from the trial Cut2d (.tap .plt ) but no files show in the U Disk file list. The stick is doing something, it flashes so there's some activity. I did notice that the existing files have .U00 and .U01 extensions, if these are extensions, but there is no option for this file type in Cut2d. Any advice? What file types do you guys run ?
    Cheers

I just use the basic .tap files and they work fine, I am guessing that your DSP isn't recognizing the flash drive. You could try formatting the flashdrive using FAT32 file system. If that fails you may need to try other flash drives.

When our new machines first arrived, we tried six different USB sticks. The only one that works is " Lexar " brand. Straight out of the box.

I buy them from Harvey Norman. Normally pay $16 Each.

We also use the.tap extension in our programming.

Thanks guys, tried fat32 no luck so I'll get a couple of new sticks. The machine makes a high pitch hissing noise which seems to come from the drives when idle, is this normal ?

    USB Corrupted Inner Files

I tried to use an off the shelf USB formatted to FAT32 and corrupted the inner files, the file list appeared with garbled characters and the delete file function did not delete the files so the only way I could remove them was to reformat the inner files.

Below is a copy of a message I sent to Excitech about the problem - to which I have yet to receive a reply although this could be due to the Chinese New Year.
    "
The problems detailed below worked correctly before I did the inner file format.

    1. I can no longer control the spindle speed from the keypad - OnOff plus Z+ or Z-.
The check keys function shows that all the keys work correctly.
    2. The spindle speed does not change to the Speed Grade Parameter when I run a GCode file.
    3. When I set the GCode Z Height Option to Disabled the DSP uses the DSP Z Height setting rather than the GCode file height.

I am considering reloading the application file: RZNC-D5416-1.2(zhb165)_normal.NEWBIN2.
    "

I also posted earlier on the related DSP Deleted Thread:

    "
Related to DSP becoming inoperable - I tried to use a 2GB USB Drive to transfer files and corrupted the DSP inner file memory block so I reformatted as I could not delete the files using the delete file function. Subsequently I can no longer control the spindle speed either through the keypad (Z+. Z-) or through the spd grad setting when I load GCode. The spindle on off settings work so for example if I change the on setting to b1100 the resulting spindle speed is the expected 150 HZ (100 + the last three bits * 50). If I change the off settings to b1110 the off speed is the expected 250 HZ (100 + 3*50).
    "

The first bit relates to the on off state of the spindle - if you set that bit to on in both on/off settings the spindle will always run but at two different speeds depending on the toggled on/off state controlled by the on/off button

No luck with new USB sticks, I tried a couple but the DSP wouldn't recognize any of them. Anyway I was able to get files into it with a direct to PC connection and get them cut.

Is it OK to disconnect the DSP with machine powered up ? or should it be powered down ? I'm a bit concerned about corrupting the thing.

    Hi guys,

I start to believe that this USB issue is no different than tossing a coin.... I bought a Kingston 8 GB DataTraveler 112 and it works just fine. So do some (but not all) older Sandisk Cruzer, micro 2GB I have (Those that came with the U3 system). I also have a few truly old Sandisk 256 Mb and they work to. All in all I would say that I have a success rate of about 70%.

Unhappy Lost Settings Due To Incompatible USB

My problem still is not getting the correct USB but resetting the DSP so that it works as it did before I reformatted the inner files because of the corruption due to trying to use of an incompatible USB.

Has anyone had the same problem of corrupted files requiring reformatting.

I still can run GCode but as per previous post I can no longer control the spindle speed etc.

Hi Woodcam, how did you get the spindle speed control before you had issues ? I'm still trying to figure that out.
