Unhappy Spindle problem

Hi Shannon, I had a request from a chap in Melbourne for some help to solve a problem he is having with his spindle.

Thought you may have the answer to this one?

The spindle on his Excitech will only spin in an anti-clockwise direction. He is using V Carve Pro and is wondering if it could be a post processor problem? I believe that the post processor he needs to use is - " G Code Arcs( mm ) ( .tap ). Is this correct?

Or could it be more of a wiring up problem?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Rocket.

Thumbs up

Thanks Jim, i have sent him a PM.

Not sure if he will know how to adjust it. Waiting for a reply.

By the way - loved the summer in America girls, and the astronauts photos were out of this world.

Not sure where this reply is going to end up - at the end of the thread or where I clicked reply - neverthless, I was looking at how you got the black foam PVC stuff off the table ... by machining and then soaking with turps?

I didn't want to make a mess (no vacuum extractor), so instead of machining the black stuff off, I just tried chiselling it off, and found it came off really easy that way. The glue is still there, but there is no plastic to prevent penetration of the turps into the glue - plus it was quick and easy. I may have just been lucky and they didn't prime the surface of my black bits at the factory before they glued it on - plus I should mention the machine is over 18 months old now, and the glue seems quite hard overall, though still a bit chewy and tacky in places.

Once I lifted the end up with the chisel, I found I could just peel the strip off by hand ... no mess, no fuss. Just thought I'd share with the class.

Sounds an easier way to get it off, from memory mine was on too hard to peel off and would snap off in about 4" bits. The glue was slightly rubbery though.

Another update.... ....finally.

Its been a while since I have updated this thread, I am still using my CNC almost on a daily basis. One of the cooler projects I am using it for is my all aluminium microlight here
http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/fo...-mc-15-nz.html

I have also done a few more mods to my machine that I haven't put up pictures of ...yet.
The most recent is a version 3 dust foot. I used the poor mans vacuum forming trick to make the new one out of plastic fizzy drink bottles. The old foot (shown in previous pictures) died from having too many arguments with the clamps. I also made a set of 3.6m long straightedges that were straight to within 0.1mm over the full 3.6meters. I covered the straightedge in packing tape and used JBweld to make better bed to align the linear rails straight. Will post some pics at some stage...

Shannon.

Hi Shannon,

I've been impressed by a lot of the work you've been doing, but having read through the CriCri build thread I've really got to take my hat off to you - there's some really good ideas there on solutions to problems (like drilling holes around a cylinder) but the thing that's really blown me away is this: http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/fo...html#post69582

Can I ask what products you're using to paint the MDF parts? I've tried making things from laminated MDF, and the problem is that after a few weeks the glue lines 'sink' and leave subtle indentations in the paint work.

I've found a 2k isocyanate urethane car paint that works well, but it's obviously pretty nasty stuff, so I'd be interested if you were using something that wasn't quite so dangerous.

I seem to have good success with a Aliphatic resin (like yellow PVA). The 'engines' were painted with a sanding sealer before the final paint. I havn't noticed the problem you describe.

Thanks Shannon.

I've had some luck with Cascamite (a powdered glue) but the resin looks worthy of investigation.

What's the sanding sealer and paint you've been using?

I think the sanding sealer is mirortone and it comes in gold 20 liter tins. The paint is some really cheap spraycans.

I have occasionally used the cascamite, or something similar. It was a white powder.
