well if they are name brands thats fine. I read somwhere that one guys machine had no labels or markings on the motors or spindel. they where all genaric smooth silver finish parts, with some chinese label.

I see in jimmy's pics that the label says HSD ITALY motor. so I figure if last bet a guy buys a replacement from HSD right.

I had a spray in bedliner system and a blower motor went out and they wanted $800 for a replacement. When the second motor went out I went to a local Gemco max/air and found the sand thing bolt patern even for $250. so if that is how this machine is I'm ok with that.

Am I correct, I could buy almost any spindel or motors or drive system and basically replace the parts? am I right in thinking that I mean are parts interchangable?

You're absolutely right. Steppers, rails and screws are all standard sizes. As for the spindle it's easy to make your own mount if you get another one.

I have friends who have Mills that could cut out a mount for me if needed.

First Gcodes I ran were generated in Type3 and saved straight to the USB stick to run from the hand controller. Like you I generated different progs with file names as a tool change solution.

Not a garage or basement- stairs lead to a clean room upstairs where I do electronics assembly but its never clean cos I leave the door open so I can hear what the machine is up to ;-p

What lube are you using?

I found machine gun oil is the only thing i have found to date that sticks to the guides.
Yep the ZHB....... program gives you a toolpath preview on the computer and also sends the file to the controller. I haven't really looked into it much cause it's a bit buggy. But it does what i need.

By the way i have a computer connected to the controller and that computer is networked and pulls files from our server. I haven't even tried the usb stick option before. I understand that most people will just run the controller straight from the usb stick (no computer attached)

I use Slideway oil, I get it from a machining shop down the road. They get it in 200lt drums i get some every 4-5 months

HSD USA is in Florida, and can rebuild your spindle if/when it need repair. We've recently had two 10 year old spindles rebuilt by them.
