Need some help from Portugal

Me, wife and kid are loosely planning to stay a couple of months in Portugal (well, the kid doesn't say much...). So I need some help, can any Portugese give me a hint about how to find a place to stay on the west side of Lisboa? Web site, anyone you know etc?
Somewhere around Caxias is what we're looking for, but closer to Lisboa is ok too.

One option is to drive down our own car, but it's freakin' 3700 km!
Is there any rent a wreck or similar in Portugal to get a cheap car for a longer period?

What I'm going to do? Surf of course!

Hi,
I'm affraid you don't need help anymore. I have seen your message only today.
You have any problem to find a rent a car office. To stay there are a lot of pensions and in this time of the year the prices are very low.
To practice surf I recomend Carcavelos, that is near Caxias also.
If I can be more useful please ask.
Regards

Pedro, I'm already done planning. Thanks for your reply though.
I'm in Portugal from the beginning of may and will stay for the whole summer, house is rented through friend connections.

I really hope you and your family have a great time here in Portugal.
I think May is a good time of the year, because it's calm and low cost.
Best regards

Hey svenakela, I agree with Pedro...
myself I live in Coimbra not so far way from Lisbon...

if you like surf you should check Figueira Da Foz west of Coimbra city, theres amazing places for surf, the same in Oporto....

the turism in Portugual is all over, a couple of years ago I meet some Norways , guess what they were looking for Architecture and relaxing.... but they end up spending all the time in villages eating, drinking and driving to the beaches around the center of the country...

Some people can drive 3700 'freakin' km and still be in the country they started in.

Have fun surfing, I feel envious.

Yeah, like the Russians for example.

Well, I'm not the one who says no to roadtrip...
I've rented a house close to Guincho in Cascais, actually I can see the ocean from it so it's pretty close to the surf. I'll fill the car with all surfing gear, then drive the-not-so-very-straight way to Portugal via Nice (so now it's more like 4200...). Got some friends living there, hopefully some surf there too. My wife and kid meet me up and then we'll drive over France and Spain to the "our" place.
I'll be there from 1st of may and at least three months, hopefully longer.

Hi,
You have selected the right site.
Guincho is the most for a windsurfer!
No doubt you will have a very good time there, and I hope you decide to stay more time.
I have praticed a lot of windsurf till 20 years ago, now I have almost 60 years.
If you are not a windsurfer I think Guincho is'nt the right site.
Regards
Pedro

Ok, then you would be in the right site.
Maybe I will see you, because I go there many times just to remind the grest old times.
I have made long travels to meet the right winds and waves too.
I understand you very well.
Have a great great stay.
