PCB Milling/Drilling Plan?

Hi all,

I've been looking around CNCZone now for a few days searching on PCB Milling/Drilling wanting to locate plans for one.

I would only be drilling/milling PCB, Alu face plate and ABS Plastic sheet.

I am a newbie to cnc so would prefer a lowish cost build using reclaimed parts from commercial copiers for the stepper motors and plastic/MDF frame moving gantry prefered due to space restrictions.

I am aiming for total foot print of about 18" cubed for the finished unit.

Ideas and comments welcome

Thanks in advance
Andy

Is this the one

Hi dpot

Thanks for the reply, I decided to go thru the diy photo gallery and came accross this, that I missed the first time round:-

http://www.cnczone.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2441

Is this the machine you mentioned? If not I would appreciate the link to the one you mentioned when you locate it, going to take my time planning this project.

It is it about the right size, and does the frame look to be made from 80/20T or something similar?

KCam looks like a good bit of kit, I've been thinking more of using Linux for the OS, I have read (this board I think) about a dedicated distro with CAM built in based around Ubuntu.

Thanks for the reply

All the best
Andy

KCam seems a good bit of kit, but was thinking more of using Linux I read somewhere (this board I think) about a dedicated CAM distro based around Ubuntu.

Many thanks

Hi dpot,

Was this the machine you mentioned?

http://www.cnczone.com/gallery/showp...0/ppuser/23787

Missed this first couple of time through the galleries.

KCam looks a good bit of kit, but i was thinking more of using EMC2+Ubuntu/Suse with RTAI, to keep costs down as much as possible.

I saw some NEMA23 263Oz-in (1.86Nm) for 15GBP each, do you think this would be over the top?

All the best and seasons greetz

Arrow PCB Mill/Drill

Hi dpot

Was this the machine you were thinking about?

http://www.cnczone.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/2440/cat/500/ppuser/23787

Had a look at KCam, but I was thinking more of EMC2+Ubuntu/Suse with RTAI to keep costs down.

I found a few of these for sale NEMA23 263Oz-in steppers for ~15GBP each, would this be like taking a sledge hammer to a Peanut?

Kind regards, and season greetz to all

Andy

Hi dpot,

Was this the machine you mentioned?

http://www.cnczone.com/gallery/showp...o/2440/cat/505

I missed this one when going through the gallery looking for ideas.

KCam look a good bit of kit, but is windows only, I was looking at EMC2+Ubuntu/Suse with RTAI.

I found a place selling NEMA23 268Oz-in steppers for 15GBP, would this be too much or an investment for future project?

All the best

I'm just starting out, so my advice would be less than valuable

However I'm researching a bigger home-build router that needs just that size of motor (in the UK). Is there any chance that there might be three more that I could buy ?

Good luck

Mark

Andy,

That's great !! I was coming to the conclusion that MotionControl was my best bet as a supplier, and you have just confirmed it.

Thanks for the help. Now only 999 questions for me to work out answers to
