Rik H is on a distinguished road
Hello from another newbi

well hello all the names Rik and I'm from Hull or if you live here ULL.

I thought it wise to come to a place of wisdom or so I'm told lol.
I make plastic models and I love the hobby. I am getting made redundent in December, i work in IT and well long story.
I keep hearing how people want one off bits for models, so the thought pops in my little grey matter hmm lath and milling machine even better cnc.
I was a thin plate welder for a long time but after a car accident I am now disabled so it better to try and work for me as jobs are hard to get.

I really love metal work and always wanted to learn the cnc side of things.
I really dont know where to start. A machine would be a great start but what where and how much to ask just a few questions.

I have had a look around but dont know my arse from my elbow in this side of things. So can some nice person point me towards a start at least.

Do I look to get a manual lathe and convert it or do I try and find a ready to rock one?

I'll leave it there and hope and prey somone can point me in the right direction please

Well looks like I have the first part of my set up under way I have been given a Clrke (machine mart) CL500 lathe and milling machine.
It;s not cnc yet but I think I can get it there with a little help from my friends (meaning you lot) lol have a look on machine mart web site its a UK company.

Now I know it aint nothing special but its a start and for free or swapsys as the chap say I do him a favour I get the lathe.

So now just a **** load of reading ect lol and thanks to crevis I know just where to read.

Wish me look I'm going dry boys!
