Error creating service object for MSSQL$KBMSS

When updating Esprit from SP0 to SP9 an error appears, ‘Error creating service object for MSSQL$KBMSS on DOUG’. It then asks to correct the error and rerun the Knowledgebase setup, which is part of the update for Esprit service pack 9.0.
Esprit will load but I get errors connecting to line 180 and 280. Can anyone help?
