| -Move your fridge and freezer Placing them next to the cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on their own. For example, if you put them in a hot cellar room where the room temperature is 30-35ºC, energy use is almost double and causes an extra 160kg of CO2 emissions for fridges per year and 320kg for freezers. -Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly Even better is to replace them with newer models, which all have automatic defrost cycles and are generally up to two times more energy-efficient than their predecessors. -Don't let heat escape from your house over a long period When airing your house, open the windows for only a few minutes. If you leave a small opening all day long, the energy needed to keep it warm inside during six cold months would result in almost 1 ton of CO2 emissions. -Replace your old single-glazed windows with double-glazing This requires a bit of upfront investment, but will halve the energy lost through windows and pay off in the long term. If you go for the best the market has to offer (wooden-framed double-glazed units with low-emission glass and filled with argon gas), you can even save more than 70% of the energy lost. -Recycle your organic waste Around 3% of the greenhouse gas emissions through the methane is released by decomposing bio-degradable waste. By recycling organic waste or composting it if you have a garden, you can help eliminate this problem! Just make sure that you compost it properly, so it decomposes with sufficient oxygen, otherwise your compost will cause methane emissions and smell foul. -Use less hot water It takes a lot of energy to heat water. You can use less hot water by installing a low flow showerhead (350 pounds of carbon dioxide saved per year) and washing your clothes in cold or warm water instead of hot. |

| geeksworld1, hiiiiii back at you. "Global Warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. We don't need to wait for governments to find a solution for this problem: each individual can bring an important help adopting a more responsible lifestyle: starting from little, everyday things. It's the only reasonable way to save our planet, before it is too late." You are a seriously uninformed putz. Maybe I can help you out here. There is no global warming. You probably stand there jaw-agape hearing that. You heard right, there is no global warming. Take all of your mercury-filled toxic fluorescent lights, your thermostat suggestions and your "energy efficient" appliances and shove them up your globally warmed orifice. Then again with your AGW religion cult-like "hiiiiii", you are probably a drive-by spammer and you will never read this reply. Just as well and good riddance. Mariss |

| About 28,000 years ago, glaciers passed over the northern states. Again, at about 14,000 years ago, glaciers passed over the nothern states. Something caused those events, most certainly not humans. When I was young, winters provided plenty of snow to play in. For about a 20 year period snowfalls seemed minimal by comparison. During the past 10 years or so, snowfalls seem to be more like I remember as kid. About 10-15 years ago, the enviromentalists complained there was a huge hole in the ozone layer. Did that go away? I have not heard much complaining about that in recent years. About a decade ago, we had a few hot summers here in the midwest. A lot of people died during one particular heat wave in Chicago. More recently, our summers have been rather mild here in the midwest. It is only December 15th, not even Winter yet, and we have snow on the ground and are looking at our second wave of single digit temps. The earth's climate is alive and doing what it has always done - change. The human race may have affected it a bit, but reality is reality, the climate does its own thing - change. You can't stop that, the 6 billion people on the planet can't stop that, nothing can stop that - it will continue to change. During the dust bowls of the 20s/30s, I am sure some scientist with a very narrow vision thought the world was comming to an end. The climate of the earth, which has been around for millions of years, cannot be judged or analyzed by looking at a hundred years of history. That would be similar to trying to assess a person's health by looking at the person for a microsecond or less. Your average body temperature is suppose to be 98.6 degrees F. If you actually measured it throughout the day, a month, a year, a decade, you would find that it too has its peaks and valleys. One microsecond of time isn't going to show you anything. I believe we as the "Smart" species on the planet have a responsibility to not abuse the planet and its resources. I only wish the scientists and those with political motives had the common sense and responsibility to act accordingly. Rant over Chris |

BUT to make the people buying a new device(made in china) making them feeling great because "they do something" it's great for Big Corps/Brother.
In France the region of Britain and south of Great Britain (But in Maine must be the same) We have a lot of granit stone and therefore Radon. The ancient was puting the potatoes they wanted to eat in the cave (sterilisation natural by radon) and the others for seed in a well ventilated place. Everyday they aerate their house very carefully and they did not experience problems . Radon is a radioactive gaz but we have a lot of substances in house that must be evacuated include moist and their inhabitant (mushrooms per exemple) There is a huge suspicion that the increase of cancer is due to the lack of aeration and air circulation. |
