This is an argument with no ending. People who smoke in bars/pubs want to keep it that way and people who frequent bars/pubs who don't smoke like that luxury as well. I don't smoke and its disgusting when you leave the bar and thats all you can smell on your clothes. No amount of cologne/perfume can take that **** smell out. On the other hand, it should be up to the owner of the place to allow smoking or not. I like when people smoke. Smoke 10 packs a day for all I care. Smoking is great on population control. Over 5 million die from smoking every year was the 2003 statistic. Puff your lungs out, literally.

so are guns !

i don t see a point of being ignorant about it
bars can easily be equipt to have a smoking area that is well ventilated as not to affect nonsmokers but they have not been given that option to keep both patrons happy

instead now we have to sit in a bar and smell the stink of your cheap cologne

Dear Geof,

The last time a plague of contagion descended on England was about 1666.

Various steps were taken by the citizens of London to ward off the evil pestilence.

Gentlemen strode the streets firing pistols in every direction in order that the gunpowder smoke might protect them.

Others walked the pavements, sniffing deeply, at heavily spiced oranges called "nosegays" .

There really is no progress....

Best wishes

Martin

1665 not 1666.

Apologies to all.

Best wishes,

Martin

interesting that so far no non-smoker has mentioned passive smoking in their posts (the supposed actual reason for the ban) - it's all been about smelly clothes and such.

Jazz'is dead

Hey Martin, glad to see you get around too.I have been "stuck in Epoxy Granite " time for a smoke breather.
Picture an underground Jazz pub with no smoke...no more Jazz venues here.Pool hall+no smoke=closed.Small local pubs are closing for lack of business.I guess the majority of smokers are drinkers also.As others have have posted, why do we not have a choice?Me mom is 86,non smoker, against smoking but says about the bans,"Are we communists? No you can smoke in russia.
Dumoria Jazz festival no more as adverts from cigarette companys is ilegal.
Got petrol to-day,$.97/litre/canadian.Got a bottled water,1.69/litre.Thank god My truck runs on gass not H2O.

It looks to me as if our choices are being taken away. It looks like Democracy is taking a dive and a Dictatorship is taking over.

What are your thoughts????

BTW: I'd rather be a Smoker and Drink on Occasion than be put on one of those Prescription Drugs that cause more side effects and problems than they are worth, LOL.

I am sure you wouldn't call it dictatorship if smoking was considered a drug and the government banned it right? Oops! it is a drug. Its a mild drug, but its still a drug.
