my engraving machine makes my circuit breaker stops

    Hello!
I bought an engraving laser machine in China in September… (The model is a JSM40U…) I received and tried to connect it… But every time I tried to switch on the machine, my circuit breaker stops. I don’t understand why… The engraving machine works normally with our current intensity (220v 50hz). I tried different sockets in our workshop, but that didn’t change anything. I bought a multimeter to check if the current working properly in the machine, but I do not really know how to use it...
As you see, I am really a beginner in electricity and electronics but I want (and I need) to learn.
So, if you have any idea why the laser machine does not work, a suggestion of what I could do, an advice or a way to proceed to find the default... let me know! It would really help me.
    Have a good day!

If there is fuses in the machine or E-stop, remove the fuses and turn off any circuit that comes on when the machine is switched on to try and eliminate where the high current is.
BTW, is the breaker sufficient rating for the machine?

    Cool

    Hello Mike,
What a good idea! Why didn't I think of it before? ;-)
It's difficult to find someone who accept to look at my engraving machine... They don't know this kind of products so they don't want to come and make something bad...
According to you, is it really an electrical problem? Can't it come from the laser itself (if there is a leak)?
Perhaps does it exist a way to test the different parts of my engraving laser to find where is the problem?
    Anyone has an idea??
    See you...

    Hi Al,
    Thank you for your answer...
I will follow your advice, have a look, test it and let you know if there is a miracle...
    Have a good day!

If it trips only when the laser starts, It sounds like under rated breaker rather than a machine problem!.

    Hi Al,
You will find a picture of my "electrical installation": 1- descriptive plate of the machine/ 2- my electric meter/ 3-my differential circuit breaker...
As you can see, I'm in France...
The company told me that my machine is in CE norm...
Normally, there should not be problem...
My machine stops before the laser could work. It stops when I put the switch to "on" ( the potentiometer for current regulation is to the minimum = 0 MA!). I can't turn on the light inside the machine, so to use the laser...
According to you, is it really a problem with my breaker?
I will try to play with my fuses...
    See you soon

Do you mean when the disconnect switch that you show is turned on is when it trips?
If so I would have the hookup checked again, and also check for grounds.
There must be fuses or breakers inside the panel that you can use to disconnect the machine in sections to get the breaker to stay in.

First of all it sounds like a dangerous situation. Be very careful in all your experiments, especially when "floating" power supplies outside the chassis.

I agree with "the man" in looking for a ground problem. Check that the earth ground is connected where it should be and that no power lines are shorted to ground in any part. Ohm out ground to both power lines (with machine unplugged). Check the voltage rating on all parts. They may have mixed in some 110V parts.

In a normal situation the health of the laser tube should not cause your circuit breaker trips. A dead or broken tube should not pull excessive current.
