I want to do some engraving on my Shopmaster machine. The stock spindle is rated for about 3000 rpm and the big cast iron pulleys would limit any speed increase. My idea is to make a mount attached to the quill to hold a high speed motor. Ideally it would have a collet system or at least a single collet to hold the tools. Could anyone point me to a source? Thanks in advance |

| Air driven die grinders would do, but are noisy. I just installed a small trimmer on my mill and it is a little loud, but tolerable. There are some high speed spindles here. Here is another source. It really depends on what you want to spend and the accuracy you expect. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...t=32609&page=3

| You may want to consider the HF 1/8" Air Micro Die Grinder here:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=47869 It goes to 56,000 RPM and the air consumption is only 2CFM at 90 PSI. It is also fairly quiet. Oh and it is cheap too. You can get it for $9.99 every few months. Even at regular price it's real cheap. I have seen this mounted inside an R8 spindle on a mini-mill for a similar application as yours.
