Engraving Sub-Forum?

What is the best forum to discuss Engraving. Engraving spreads across different materials, it is someting art but not always, it is not printing, but sometime drivin by printer like drivers, the machines are much lighter in build and much faster in feed rates.

I think a sub-forum devoted to engraving would be a good idea, one might combine laser and rotary engraving, though the 2 are quite different from a mcahine point of view.

A sub for this seems like a good idea. I would certainly find it useful anyway. It is, I think, the only subject I really haven't been able to find answers or consistent discussions on. I have seen a number of references by folks about engraving on various random threads though.
How many out there play with engraving?

Forum for engraving

How about just a forum titled engraving? I think the threads could show if a sub is needed for different types ie. laser or rotary.

I'll ask CNCAdmin to think about it, if he likes it you'll have it.

Regards,
Sven

I am relatively new to the forum and rarely have the time to do much posting. I have both engravers and CadCam systems that keep me very busy. I use Artcam for CAD and Corel for my engraving. Been doing the engraving for over 20 years and CAD for about the same. I have only worked with Artcam and my mill for about 3 years. The engraving forum would possibly have lacking interest since there are many engraving sites out there.

Since the admin said OK, I will make the first post.

I am very new to the CNC arena and have questions about engraving. I have a 24 x 36 router running mach2 and Vcarve Pro.

My problem is this. In VCarve Pro, I have only found out how to take a font and vcarve. I would like to know the process of setting up a file for engraving a 1 x 2 brass plate for a trophy.

Thanks

Brian

Hi Brian
I could help you if you were using an engraver but my CNC mill runs on totally different type of software. On my engraver I just define the area to be engraved and the force required to cut into the material. On plastic and soft materials I use rotary cutting bits and on brass and metals I mostly use diamond drag.
