Newbie- engraving glass what bits?

can some tell how and what bits to get to engrave glass with a cnc router would like to tray mirror and clear glass?

engrave glass I thought was done by coating glass with wax and rubbing wax off to make lines by the chemical paste that etches unprotected glass.

Dremel makes $4 tungsten carbide bit and $10 diamond bit for their vibrating engraver. These bits put preferable in a spring loaded cutter will scratch most anything.

once was making a Greenhouse and got old windows and doors people threw away. i had old patio door i figured i can cut that with a 4.5" grinder as i know i can cut ceramic tile that way. got about 1/4" cut into glass and the TEMPERED glass started making a funny noise then BAM, it shattered into a thousand little pieces. Even outside on a grass lawn it surprised me to say the least. Trust me i will never cut glass again without checking what kind it is first,

do you where i can get or make a spring loader? for that bit

I just purchased a 1/4" Diamond Drag engraver tool from ebay for $80. There's not much to choose from unless you are willing to pay a few hundred bucks. good luck mine should be in tomorrow

The diamond drag i purchased does really well for outline and text but shows too much of the tool path for larger images. I am currently working on a piece and will post pics when it is all done, still have about 2 hours to go on a 13X13 octagon mirror. Should look sweet when i am finished, even with the tool paths. But then again i only have a 90deg and should be doing this with a 120.

Works great, but like i mentioned before make sure to use a 120 degree insert and don't put too much pressure .010 works for me. The piece here is 13X13 octagon and took about a hour and a half.

You really need what is called a burnishing cutter with a featherlight spring loaded holder. The burnisher is a faceted diamond which is rotated in the holder with very light pressure. Water lubrication is necessary to prevent extensive chipping. The Diamonds are available in various widths. Personally. I feel it is a very poor substitute for laser engraving or sandblasting, but many people like it.
