Correct name for "helical engraving bits"? And any shop maybe?

Hello,

I'm searching for a well-priced (not cheap) possibility to buy helical-groove-engraving-cutters. This is what i'm talking about:

So i'd like to know two things:

1. What is the right term for the research?
2. Does anybody know a "cheap" shop or manufacturer?

I have no problems with chinese or indian tools, as long as they are precise and well-priced.

They have to be very sharp, uncoated and if possible, with polished groove. I want to use them for acrylic and wood-engraving.
Oh, and they should be around 1/4"

It would be very nice if someone could give me some further information and/or terms to search with

Thank you very much and best regards,

Marc

That looks like a spot drill with a sharp bit angle to me, maybe for plastics.

Check MSC industrial supply. part = 06298731

I use the 3/8" version for putting a chamfer on plaques.

Be advised, there is a ~ 0.020" chisel-tip on the end of my 3/8" version, probably not best for engraving small details. Definitely affordable and lasting, though.

Cheers!

I thought the same about spot-drills, but i bought some to test with and it seems like they are not that perfectly center-ground like this tool. Chamfer-cutters, too, not exactly ground to the center, there is always a slight difference in it and so it doesn't cut well at the center and leaves marks

And the drill-mill from msc: I don't think the cut is postitive enough, looks very neutral to me?

This cutter is especially for engraving materials like plastics, wood or soft aluminum.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you so far,

Marc
