I am interested determining the feesability of having smaller gears produced by a hobbiest or "spare-time" machinist. A person with experience in production of gears for applications such as R/C cars would be ideal. This image represents an average set of gears that are available today for mech boxes used in airsoft arms. The price of these sets ranges from $50 to $100 depending on manufature, material, and performance ratings. The better gearsets are manufactured from a HSS and designed for high speed applications. This gear set includes 1 - Sector Gear, 1 - Spur Gear, 1 - Bevel Gear. ![]() The largest of these gears is slightly larger than a quarter. I have gearsets by other manufactures that we can take basic dimensions from but I am more interested in creating a custom ratio gear set for performance purposes. This would not be a "to market" item (currently); however as a team mechanic for an airsoft team and parts supplier I would be interested in more than 1 set but less than 20. I am an experienced ACAD user who perfers a "hands on" approach when developing a product. I understand that there is substantial work to be done in the mathematics, design phase, and coding. Additional projects could include : ![]() This piece fits onto the sector gear. to help with some timing issues that other manufactures have. Any feedback to include design ideas, costs, or anything else related is greatly appreciated. -DrunkPug |

| Those what look to be brass pieces are simple and look easy to make. As for gears getting them on the cheap from a hobby machinist are probably not going to happen, gear making involves equipment than the average guy will not have, but good luck to you anyway. |

| You are looking at watchmaking gear machines to produce watchmaker sized gears. Yes they can be made, but, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ unless they are made in significant quantity. Maybe you can find one of us old dudes that still has a Micron or Gauthier hobbing machine in storage somewhere Wish you luck, Dick Z
