a suggestion; you are short on experience, and you have to realize you will cost an employer a lot more than just your wage (because you are bound to make mistakes that will cost). find some shops and offer to work for free, no obligations- if you mange to find someone willing to give you a break, show up early, accept any information or instruction as it is given, make sure you understand what you are expected to do, don't argue with anyone- put your nose to the grindstone. if you make a mistake tell your supervisor or boss- don't hide it or lie about it- be honest. if it doesn't work out just say thank- you for the opportunity, and try again elsewhere. when you are worth salt you'll get paid.

that is probably the best advice that anyone can ever give in this field !
no matter how angry the boss may be , if you say i screwed up then it's the one point that they can't argue back at you , in the end it will gain their trust as long as the mistakes don't continue to be repeated

your best bet would be to check around the production shops , their generaly quick change overs and stuff that will help get you familiar with things , I dont know if the oil fields are still booming but I know there was a lot of work to be had a couple of years ago

I hear it's really bad out west right now; oil prices down, investment money dried, a lot of luxury homes going for half what they were last year.

Good luck, I hear most shops in Edmonton are at least cutting one day a week, some have had big lay offs. Even the tool dealers are on short weeks.
On all equipment there are 2 levers...
    Lever "A", and Lever F'in "B"

    try apollo machine

if you try apollo machine 4141 93 Street there are chances that you get hired because this is only company in edmonton who is advertising for hiring. otherwise job condition in edmonton alberta are very bad. shops are not getting new jobs and old jobs are completing at slow pace. most of the employer cut their worker wages 10 to 20 percent and also reduce their hours. i am also laid off and looking for work since 2 months but no luck. if any one looking for cnc machinist in edmonton or calgary i am available for work. i have experience of machining of oil and gas components on cnc mill with tosnuc, haas and heidenhain control.
