From what I know, not too great unless you are machining parts for medical or dental companies, everything else appears to be way down. I have a lot of machinist friends that work in other fields and their employers have all had massive lay-offs or cutting work hours. Said friends work in Los Angeles and Orange counties. All the local suppliers where I buy my metal, cutting tools and
other supplies are struggling.

) I find myself working on a consultant basis for a machine shop in a test lab. The work is not too steady, but hell If I wanted to work full time I wouldn't have retired. That said, the recession, the governmental change, the stars, whatever it is, business has slowed significantly, even in the rocket / satellite industry.
