| You're going to need to post an IGS or STP file for anybody to give you any kind of idea. Is that all one piece? Including that ring (I assume it's a headlight)? I don't even think that is produceable by machining. It looks like you're thinking of an injection molded part but wanting a low production solution. In my opinion, you don't want to know what a machined solution will cost (it'll be thousands of dollars). I think if you really need that shape, you're going to have to carve it out of foam, cover the foam in body filler and make a master plug. Pull a fiberglass splash off of that to make a mold, then produce fiberglass parts from the mold.

| Like Greg said, that's going to be one expensive mother. Just at a glance (that thing is around 19" long!), count on $400-$500 in material alone, 8 hours of programming (and a lot of head scratching), and another 6-10 hours of machine time. That's for ONE PART. Are you prepared to spend $3000* on a set of these? If not, please let us know so noone spends a ton of time quoting the thing for nothing. If you are, please post an STL file with as much information as you can think of, like: -material alloy -surface finish -largest allowable fillet on all inside corners (for ball nose endmills)...the bigger the better -overall and specific tolerances -required lead time -quantity, this order -quantity, future orders if applicable Greg, I make parts sort of like this for high end hot rod builders, and you'd be blown away by how much they're willing to spend to have something that nobody else does. One that pops into my mind is a $600 hood latch. It's fun work too, so everybody wins. *This is NOT a quote!! |

| Yeah, Matt, I don't doubt that there are people who will pay seemingly crazy prices for custom parts. Some people 'get it' and don't mind paying what some of these things will cost. I got to thinking about another RFQ on here the other night (the throttle body). I'll bet that if I quoted it for just the material and the cutters that would get used up in that job, it would be too high. As soon as I bought my machine, friends came out of the woodwork wanting custom wheels. When I told them what the billets were going to cost, they thought I was lying to them. They wonder why I don't have 'billet everything' on my personal vehicles. They just don't understand what cutters and material really cost.

| There are a few ways to make these depending on the quantity needed, unfortunately milling will not be the cheapest. You can make a mold and have them done in fiberglass, or you could cut individual pieces and weld it together. After a little finishing work, once installed you wouldn't be able to tell it was a welded assembly. |

| How many are you going to need total? 2? 20? 2,000? That will definitely affect how you approach the manufacturing of it.
