| 2 axes cnc lathe is very easy to learn. i would enroll in a trade school or community college. you need hands on training. it's ok to learn via CD or video to get the basics. but there is nothing like hands on. just my 2 cent. |

| You can do basic simple stuff by jogging and logging. In other words, just jog it and record depths and offsets of tools. Create multiple passes when needed. Learn a little bit about what the Gcode is. You don't need to know all of it to do basic stuff. I programmed 12 to 15 different brass bushing that I use for production without a drawing or a cam program. Just used the edit code button in Mach 3. Just do simple single axis moves. I recently wanted to start turning profiles like chess pieces and things in the machines non production down time. Lots of that on this one. I use Dolphin Turn for the Cam. Works pretty well. I would still have been in trouble had I not learned to program the basics by hand though. On a lathe it is critical that you know what each axis is doing. Crashes can be deadly on a lathe. Even a small simple one. Best would be a school or tutor session of course, but with a little patience and perseverance, you can do it without. I am not familiar with Fanuc though, so don't know what the differences are between it and Mach 3.
