RFQ - Lathe carbon steel material

I am needing a quote on having 40pcs built, see the .pdf for the drawing.

    604010-01

Please email the cost and ETA (not super critical at the moment) to conradandres at aceengineering dot ca. In the title put "RFQ - 604010-01". Thanks!

Are you aware that you have asked for hex shaft and drawn Octo?

Are you also aware that you've spec'd a leaded steel for a weldment part?

I didn't read the title. Matt is right - I wouldn't use this in a weldment.

Leaded steel is okay for welding if you use low hydrogen rod or mig.

With ER70 S6 wire and Metal Match Steel shield gas it wont weld worth a crap here. Never tried with Flux Core. Generally we stay far away from the stuff if it needs weld.

What sort of magical setup you using Geof.

When we have accidentally made a part out 12L14 we have had luck using SS TIG or Nickel rod.

Nothing magic, ER70-S6 and straight CO2.

We have tried using ALMIG for shielding and it does not work worth a crap; I always thought it was our useless technique because all the welding experts recommended it; nearly all our welding involves one part that is leaded so maybe our problems with ALMIG are due to the leaded.

I can post a picture or if you PM an address I can send a sample so you can have a look.

The part is based off of a weld in bung, however the one I have posted won't be welded in place. The reason for that spec'd material is because it is a material that is easy to purchase locally, however I figured it would be worth a shot getting a few quotes from here.

If it was to be a weld in bung it would be spec'd with 1018 cold finished carbon steel.

I appreciate the offer Geof, no need to waste your time.

We have no need to weld leaded, and probably been 3 years since our last blooper into doing it.
The CWB won't issue weld certificates for it AFAIK either ;-)

Bingo. 303 can be welded as well, but it sure aint structurally sound. If you really want a surprise, have a leaded steel weldment X-ray'd. You'll hear the tech laughing from your office.

Conrad, I didn't mean to question your design if you took it that way, just trying to be helpfull.
