I have two simple parts to be turned and would like for someone to quote the work but don't have a drawing in CAD. Is there a free 2D CAD download that is user friendly that any one here can point me too? Or will a clean sketch and scan work? Thanks for any help. Aaron |

| If the parts are simple, I'm sure a sketch would be fine. Just make sure to have everything dimensioned and tolerances specified.

| A print does not have to be done on CAD. If you know how to draw, it should be no problem with a pencil and a ruler. The main things are: properly define the part features, critical tolerances, material type and quantity. I've seen plenty of bad drawings done on CAD and plenty of good drawings done the old way. |

| Yep, I agree- any decent pen/ pencil sketch will do- speak to your supplier though. Always speak to the guy making the stuff. If I'm asked to quote on anything I'll make my own drawing from the customer's sketch and say "this is what I'm making, is this ok?" that way we both have it in writing. Only problem with this is if the customer is using you purely as a design house just to get decent drawings for free then going somewhere else for the manufacturing with my nice precise drawings. I've been kinda lucky though with my customers- they can fax me a rough sketch and I'll sort out any anomolies this end which keeps them happy.
