Hire a laid off worker

I was laid off twice in 4 months.

I was hired by a company after the fist lay off that had no human resources, and had no Idea the benefit that they could get for hiring a laid off worker from the federal government...................I got into an arguement with the wrong guy on the wrong day with the wrong ears listening and the next day recieved a lay off letter................the letter was BS because it talked of overhead and value to the customer, when the real reason was the arguement.

Good for the next company that hired me.............They hired a laid off worker and are getting paid half my wages for 6 months for doing so. They benefit from keeping me around.

It is nice to be with a company that actually has a human resources and is smart enough to use the federal government to their advantage.

It is the second time I have used the government to my advantage.

When I went to trade school after the Army's "rif" the great state of Texas flipped the bill. I got an AAS in Manufacturing Engineering from Texas State Technical College while Texas picked up the bill for the cost of tuition, books, and boarding! And I was getting 900$ a month from the GI bill and Army College fund. That was back in 94.

I'm surprised more human resource folks don't know what is available.

Arrow

A few years back my job went overseas.

Due to that fact I qualified for an additional 3 months Unemployement Compensation and a retraining grant of just short of $5000 to allow me to find work locally.

I had never used "aid" before - but this time I did need it.

I was without full time work for 21 months.

Thankfully that is long past and I do have a good job as a CNC setup / shift lead.

When the going gets tight, don't be afraid to ask what options are available.

And remember it is the taxes you paid in the past that funded this kind of assistance. Well, not exactly, what you paid helped someone else, but the principal is valid that you are benefiting from help that you provided for.
