| Need to fabricate a large steel plate with designs. Hi all, I haven't posted here for a while. But I have an opportunity to do a job for a client that is looking to have a large piece of 8mm thick marine grade stainless steel plate cut into a certain shape. The steel plate itself have designs cut into the middle. Its for a commemorative monument our client is doing. Basically, my request is, does anyone know a few companies that can do laser/plasma CNC cutting of MARINE GRADE stainless steel? The completed panel size of the steel plate is roughly 6m x 15m. I need two made. One is mirror image of the other. Basically I need a quote to submit to my client. I can post a pic as soon as I get the design from my client. The plates can be made in section and then welded when they arrive to site. Please help if anyone here can. Thanks. Alex |

| Try rfqwork.com You might try rfqwork.com. My company has put a couple of parts up there and gotten very good response from many shops. Also, waterjet might be a better way of cutting your plate. |

| quote request Good evening Alex, We would be interested in your project. Our plasma table is 4' x 8', I can index to 16' on the x axis but we're limited to the 4' width. Would that work for you? How thick were you going to make this? Give me a send me an email at mbraaten@med-pac.net, we have a knack for these type of projects. Regards, Mike Braaten |

| Thanks for the info. Does waterjet cutting do a better job over plasma? I need the finished product to be nice and straight cut and as little flaw as possible. Will check out rfqwork.com. Thanks.
I have emailed you. Please check your mail. Thanks. Alex |

| plasma vs waterjet In general waterjet will hold better tolerances and make a nicer finish than plasma. For thin material it may not matter. But when you get in to very thick material waterjet will definitely be the way to go. Waterjets can basically handle any thickness material just by altering their feed rate. With plasma as you go thicker you need a bigger and bigger machine. Almost any waterjet can cut 5"+ thick material. There are multi-axis waterjets that will account for taper of the jet as well. You can learn about waterjet cutting at: http://waterjets.org/ (not affiliated) |
