I have a small item that I buy that I’m thinking can be made in small runs for a fraction of the cost. Enco is having a sale on some drill rod that would be good for making these. A CNC lathe should make short work out of this. Starting with 1.500” round stock. Bore to a .675 ID. Turn the OD down to .740”X .187 wide. Part it off .040” thick. A set is 16 pieces. Depending on the thickness of the parting blade, it should be feasible to get 112 pieces out of 36”. The .187 dimension could be adjusted down to .150 in an effort to get 112 usable pieces. The parting blade would be the big factor.
I use this drill rod for all types of things. It cuts a lot like a grade 8 bolt. Not too tough but not soft and gummy like mild steel.
Anybody want to tackle this job? Give me a price that is worth your time so I can see if it would be a cost effective route for me. All dimensions are +/-.002. I will handle heat treat and black oxide coating.
