Is there a minimum age in California?

I have always heard you had to be 18 years or older to work in a machine shop. Is this true? We are looking at a kid that is looking for a summer job and he is only 16.

Check with the labor board, I think there is but not 100% sure.

Double check but I believe he can work as long as it is not a full 40 hours.I cant remember what the max. hours are.

I started in my first machine shop job at 16 in Pomona,CA. There were a lot of restrictions on what I could and couldn't do under 18. Also could not interfere with school hours.
