Looking for CNC machinist in Tucson, AZ

Hi all,

Where do you find a good machinist.
Looking for a person who wants to work, make parts, have a relaxing work environment, that can set-up cnc mills and/or lathes, inspect their parts, fill out paper work and has a good work ethic and desire to succeed and achieve. even someone who really wants to learn and try hard to better their skills. We offer good pay and benefits with ultimate opportunity for advancement.

it isnt a dieing trade, its already dead for the most part, almost no one is training new poeple and no one is looking to get into it anymore, and what are you calling big dollars,i see poeple making 22-25 /hour on highway road crews, with auto dealers shop rates over $50-$75,and lets not mention what plumbers make,at 18-25/hour a machinist is way under paid for how much he has to spend on tools and years of training at low wages, this is not my opion but mere fact, your looking for 4 employees wraped up into one, what you descibed that he has to do,it should pay around 50 dollars/hour,machinist,programer+setup guy, inspector, and not to mention, paperwork

I totally understand the insecurity of going to a new company. I've been machining for 17 years, I've worked in many garage shops that had no idea how to treat employees. What I'm talking about is machine shop is no longer offered at the high school level, kids can't even get an interest anymore. The ones you do hire don't seem like they want to advance and learn. The good guys don't want to leave their cushy job. It seems the only people you can get that have any skills are drug addicts. We have 7 cnc mills and 2 cnc lathes. I'm getting tired of comping tools for people that don't want to learn.
I'm sure I could put an ad in the paper and offer $22 an hour and get someone OK. I just thought if someone on this forum wanted a job it would be the type of person who is trying to be the best machinist they can be. There is always a position for someone who wants to be their best even if it isn't the best. I just want people who want to succeed if someone comes in that wants to learn to program or set-up and they put in a good effort I'm not stopping them I will let them learn as much as they want or can. The more you know the more you earn. Just try harder I don't see it out there anymore.
I'm sorry off on a rant. Thanks Joe

I wouldn't call anyone a set-up guy if the can't inspect their own parts and fill out paperwork. except maybe a union guy.

Have you tried talking to machine shop instructors at your local community colleges? Obviously these kids wouldn't be that experienced but the instructors would know who the guys are with aptitude and motivation.

Hi Joe! I was a student at a cc when I got a lead for the job I am at now. The HR and plant manager came in to the lower level NC classes and did a presentation on the company. The NC instructor give me the information and I followed through. I had NO experience but was still hired. 7 years later and I am still at the company. I started out running CNC mills for 2 years and then moved on to Mazak lathes with gantry loaders.
