    A. Everybody's already got a job and they're happy in Chicagoland.
    B. Nobody wants to work in Chicagoland
    C. The pay isn't high enough.
    D. All of the above.

From what I've been seeing, most of the CNC jobs are program/set up/operate...and the pay isn't enough to make it worth enough people entering into the field, or the other problem of why should I program if I'm being paid good operator level wages?

    ...not criticizing, just sayin'.

I am happy working for $40 per hour doing programming from my home office. If any of your clients want to hire me to program for them from my home office, have them give me a call.

Entry level operators here are getting $15 per hour and up.

ok i'm not in the US , but i'm happy being a freelance cnc programmer / designer .

working from home here in the UK . at a higher amount than those rates . they are way lower than what would be classed as the going rate even for in house staff , never mind contracted in personnel in my opinion.

Just a suggestion: You might want to start your own thread for this rather than hijack one. It gets too convoluted.

Good programmers here can make 6 figures, or pretty darn close. Some even more.

We made six figures during the 80's -90's

    Same story coming around again,
If you wish to have an talented expert who delivers the goods and makes your client money, pay the top rate without complaining. We are temp help.
Yes, a competent CNC programmer should make as much as the VP.
A knowledgeable experienced shop manager will know good from bad.
HR or accountants don't, they usually hire based upon price per hour.

We'll go where the work and pay appear.
We are tooling personnel, making a tool (CNC program) for the client to make money with, one part or thousands.

Be careful of the charlatans and wanna -be amateurs.
Hire a few and and blow the part or schedule.
    Been doing this too long

I'll bite. Are you with an employment agency or are you a freelance recruiter?

I'm looking for something accessible by public transportation, or within a mile or so of public trans.

In the suburbs that pretty much limits me to 1st or 3rd shift, since any 2nd shift that works later than 12:30pm won't have any public trans available at that hour. I don't mind working 3rd shift, I usually end up on nights anyway because I can work independently and troubleshoot when necessary.

Let me know if you have any openings that meet that criteria. I have over 20 years experience & knowledge in job shops.
