Fort McMurray is in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), stretching from north central Alberta to the borders of Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories, and is among the largest municipalities in North American ranks by area encompassing 68,454 square kilometers. Fort McMurray is the largest city in the Municipality with a population of over 80,000. Best known for its association with the oil sands industry, Fort McMurray is considered to be the heart of one of Canada's major oil production hubs.
Under the direction of the CNC/Millwork Planner, the successful candidate will play a vital part in the organization by increasing the efficiency of the millwork shop by assisting with cabinet and counter top fabrication. After blueprints have been reviewed and the computer is programmed to make the items required, it will be your job to prepare the equipment to perform the necessary work.
More specifically, some of your key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Setting up and operating CNC Router;
- Recording materials used before pulling from inventory;
- Performing production runs to cut components of cabinets and counter tops from wood and wood substitutes;
- Keeping work area clean;
- Using approved methods to fix workmanship flaws;
- Being able to visualize a finished product from drawings, blueprints or other specifications;
- Heavy lifting;
- Reporting all safety concerns and/or construction mistakes to a supervisor/manager; and
- Interacting and liaising daily with shop co-workers and other staff.
To be successful in this role, you will possess formal cabinetry training or an equivalent combination of education and experience, sufficient to successfully perform the above tasks. Your knowledge of saws and cabinetry will enable you to exercise sound judgement.
The successful candidate will possess high teamwork and communication abilities, in order to complete work in a safe manner, of high quality and with the ability to respond to customer demand.
You will also need to be fully aware of the hazards and safety requirements of the job, as outlined to you in the Orientation Handbook.
Ideally, you will have exceptional hand-eye coordination, with the ability to work closely with other production staff to meet tight deadlines for cabinet and counter top production.
Your working week will be Monday to Thursday 7am to 5pm, and Friday 7am to noon, with overtime readily available.
You must be able to supply your own CSA approved footwear.
