The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for an Optical Technician in New Iberia, LA. An Optical Technician performs a variety of product fabrication duties including profiling, cutting, generating, blocking, grinding, polishing, edging, cleaning and inspecting of a variety of optical blanks, following established methods and procedures to meet customer order requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

Works from work orders, simple blueprints, drawings, sketches, and written or verbal instructions to fabricate products to customer specifications
Prepares parts for fabrication by blocking to holding fixtures using waxes, pitches, and hot plates. Deblocks and cleans parts.
Sets up and operates centering and edging equipment to finish material to proper diameter within specific tolerances.
Sets up and operates generator to fabricate material to a thickness within specified tolerances.
Inspects parts to verify conformance to customer specifications.
Sets up and operates polishing machines, adjusts as necessary to obtain the best polishing action, as well as proper product thickness and surface quality, in the minimum amount of time, utilizing various lapping compounds.
Sets up and operates cnc mills to grind and round products, as well as various saws to cut material into smaller parts.
Fabricates parts maintaining tolerances and good surface quality using prescribed procedures and verbal instructions to enable succeeding operations to meet final specifications.
Utilizes various measuring and testing devices to achieve desired material specifications and quality.
Offers solutions to problems and makes suggestions for improving methods and procedures.
Maintains clean and safe work area and work tools and equipment.
Follows company safety rules and regulations.
Sets up, programs and operates cnc generator to fabricate material to a specified tolerances.
Perform other related duties as required or directed
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is required.
Trade school in electrical, plumbing, or related is desired. Trade School certification in Machinist is preferred.
Associates degree in engineering is desired.
Must have experience using computers and be comfortable working with them on a daily basis. Experience with SAP and Microsoft Excel is preferred.
Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment
Must be able to work in an empowered team environment
Must be able to read and work with simple drawings or blueprints and written specifications. Good mathematical skills required
Must be able to work a rotating shifts
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is desirable
2 - 4 years of experience with machine work and measuring devices is desirable
