Hi, I am looking to have some small and precise parts made. Brass disks that are 2.75 mm wide and 0.38 mm thick amongst other parts. Ideally I would like to find a hobbyist in London or near London...I am not against paying for the parts, but I would like to learn some more about machining and don't think I would just sending the work to a large company. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks! |

| Hi, I 'm really just looking for a hobbyist in a shed! I have been reading up on buying my own taig mill and trying it all out for myself... I am not sure if that is the best way to go or just to get some one else to make the parts. I have tried to get a Chinese company to make the parts but they were not very good/precise. So in short I am looking for some one who is already set up to make the parts or to point me in the right direction. I can read all the posts and watch all the videos but actually meeting some one with a lathe/mill set up who has 30 minutes for a chat over a coffee or pint would be a lot more help =) |

Copper is a very difficult material to work with. So I can say with all certainty that you would fail to make them. Phil Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk |

| The problem as I say is the small diameters. A company that makes watch parts would be a good place to start looking for. You would need a high speed spindle definitely and diamond tools probably. I believe these machines are called swiss lathes. Taig forget it Phil Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk |

| Hey up all, my first post on this site though I've been visiting for some time, noticed this discussion, and I think (and maybe the other contributers would agree) that you might get further with your mission to make your thing if you gave a bit more info. The drawing you posted is confusing in relation to the discs you want to make. But presumably they fit in the middle (?), do they become part of the whole? I don't quite understand, but it might be if you describe the end part that you're after, that you'll find the solution. You might be able to make it in one piece instead for instance on a fine CNC lathe, ??? Nick |
