| --- QUOTE REQUEST ON HOLD --- Because a number of people have already sent PMs, I would prefer not to receive further offers at this point. The reason for this is that I'd like to have a chance to discuss details more thoroughly with a handful of shops, versus trying to catch up with all the emails and be superficial with everyone. Thank you for your understanding. Contrary to what the thread prefix indicates, nothing has been awarded yet and "bidding" could be reopened in a few days. Meanwhile, I will keep an eye on this thread and I'll try to answer all your questions and participate in an open discussion. So please don't hesitate to post, if for no other reason, for getting an email notification when there's an update. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are standard 3.5mm (~1/8") plugs, not much different from what you'd find on a regular headphone set. Diameter: 0.138" Collar diameter: 0.175" Overall Length: 0.95" Material: Brass Insulation: Nylon I need a clean cut right around where the arrows are pointing, at precisely 0.51" from the tip. The remaining upper portion is discardable. These come in bulk from the manufacturer and they are cheap, however a custom run is not feasible, even if the cutting will cost more than the part itself. I need someone who can handle about 10,000 at time. If you can devise a streamlined system for feeding and cutting these, there'll be a lot more to come. Thank you for your consideration. | How clean of a break does it need to be? Can there be distortion of the diameter or flatness of the cleaved end? Is it solid and what type of brass is it? If ground, as a final task, what does the smoothness have to be? Last edited by kdoney; 06-19-2010 at 03:03 AM. |

| Pretty clean, pretty flat and pretty 0.51" from the tip. I don't need polished, but a flat surface that doesn't look like rough sandpaper is desired. I've been asked this question a lot over PM as well and I can't tell what rough or smooth means from person to person. Then again, how to maintain length repeatability if the cut is too coarse to touch? |

Wouldn't they would fall apart if you cut them? |

No. The interior layers are molded together during fabrication and, even though you can pull them apart with some force, they won't just fall apart. I went over my prototypes with an endmill (which gave me perfect / better than needed results) - take a look at the picture below to see what it's like on the inside: |

| I do realize you put this on hold for the moment while you sift thru emails and quotes. I would ask you to consider my shop to do your production work for you. We specialize in production work and have done work similar in the past. We have extremely low overhead and can be more than competitive on pricing I feel. Email me at torquemachining@comcast.net or here is a link to our website. [url]www.torquemachining.com
