Manufacturing Manager - Optima Manufacturing Inc.

In an effort to raise the Organization’s level of manufacturing capability, our client has created a new position under which it will consolidate responsibility for all of its fabrication operations under one Manager responsible for managing all aspects of a Lean Production Environment to ensure that finished products are completed on time, are of the highest quality, and meet or exceed Optima’s standards and customers’ specifications. Reporting to the VP Ops and Finance, the Manufacturing Manager, will manage fabrication operations located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Its direct reports include an Assembly Supervisor, Programming Supervisor, Planner/Scheduler, Day and Afternoon Shift Supervisors and Maintenance.

The position will be expected to conduct a thorough review of all fabrication processes with the objective of improving on-going efficiency and the establishment, when appropriate, of systems that allow for a more precise measurement of manufacturing effectiveness. The individual in this position will be expected to review and recommend appropriate changes to the way the Company fabricates and assembles its parts, including planning and directing the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. That should also include a complete organizational review to determine the ideal organizational structure and required competencies and an assessment of the current workforce against those requirements. The ideal candidate should be familiar with the types of CNC machines used by Optima such as CNC Turning, Milling, EDM, Honing, Gundrill and Saw. This role will appeal to a results-minded individual who excels at multi-tasking and can proactively lead and direct the work of others.


CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Management/Technical Expertise; strong Technical or Engineering Aptitude

• Minimum 10 years career experience (min 5 years production experience) with a demonstrated pattern of increased responsibility in manufacturing management or supervisory roles (min 2 years in supervisory or leadership role) in a company recognized for their management sophistication and emphasis on quality, health, safety and environmental issues.

• Past responsibility in a manufacturing/fabrication operation involving the establishment of leading edge processes in lean manufacturing and quality.

• Experience managing or supervising production operations including budgets, resources and people.

• Demonstrated leadership ability and strategic thinking skills.

• Excellent organization and prioritizing skills.

• A proven effective record of maintaining positive employee relations and high levels of employee motivation and productivity.

• Experience working with and implementing team oriented management approaches.

• Technical and process expertise, including a knowledge of a variety of manufacturing technologies and processes, process economics, quality and maintenance systems financial and control mechanisms.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively at both the strategic and tactical levels. Experience with change management principles and demonstrated ability to drive and manage the change process, from strategic planning though implementation would be an asset.
