Concerning this machine....
The repair cost can be as little as $20 or up to $1K. A small relay that is part of the frequency inverter is stuck open. The inverter however is a big expensive part. A new pre programmed inverter is $1K from Emco, it's $500 direct from Lenze out of Dallas, but I'm told there may be a cost to transfer the firmware or that Emco may not make the firmware avalaible to third parties. An electronics repair shop might be able to fix the relay for $200 or less and you might be able to put a separate switch on it for $20, I'm not sure.
As it is now, it's a fully functional lathe, but, you have to use the Estop to stop the spindle when you chuck up your stock. With the Estop off, the spindle turns about 15 rpm. According to Emco it's OK to run the machine as is, since as soon as the program starts, the spindle is under the control of a different board. The machine zero's, loads and runs programs as expected based on my testing. It's all up and running now.
The machine is a Fanuc 0 based machine, the control program runs on a PC, there is no separate control panel, everything is controlled from the Keyboard and PC using WinNC from Emco. I have the Master Software Disk for this serial numbered machine (fresh from Emco) some Doc, and the Schematics. Emco will send any doc you need and don't have for free. The PC comes with it of course.
I can give you the contact information for the tech at Emco I have been working with if you want to verify my thinking, or have other questions. I don't have the expertise to attempt to repair the inverter (But I'm tempted), so I'm looking at either putting another $1K into it and selling it as a 100% machine, or getting my investment back and starting over with a much smaller machine. Fixed, this is a $7,500 machine but time is money and I'm way short of both.
Hope this helps....
Get your investment back? What price are you putting on it as-is?
Cheers

What mactec said. Pictures are a good thing. Where do you have it listed for sale? What is your asking price?
Lathe has been sold.
Thanks for the guidance.

$1200 for that lathe and stuff with, looked like a pretty good deal. $1000 for crating, not so much.
Had it been closer, or at least more reasonably priced for the shipping option, I think I'd have been all over that. I'm more interested in a 120P or 6P, but that one would have served quite well too.
I'd have liked to see the pictures and price stay up. Makes for not much useful info when folk go around and erase their tracks on a forum, by deleting posts or editing them out.

Let me see if I’ve got this right.
Your NOT interested.
You think the shipping cost was unreasonable.
You're actually looking for a different model.
You're upset that, after is was sold, I deleted the pictures and pricing info for the machine you're not interested in and think is overpriced.
Did I miss anything, or are you looking for some sort of apology or other affirmation of your self appointed leadership position for the sale of the machine you're not interested in and think is overpriced.
Nope. Didn't miss much. Not expecting a apology either, just making a comment. It's allowed.
I was actually interested in your machine, although in a perfect world I'd rather have another model. Were it closer, or the crating less, I'd have been pretty keen to buy it.
I expect that the new owner will be pleased with it, as it looked to be in very nice condition, and quite reasonably priced if it could be picked up.
I thought that $1k to crate it seemed a tad much. If that included the freight....Dunno.
But really, my comment about folks erasing their tracks on the forum is just a pet peeve of mine. It reduces the availability of reference materials and it stops folks from finding out information that had been posted here. Given that you had posted in another thread that you were finding very little info around, I would have thought that you would understand why leaving this up might be beneficial to someone else.
Have a great day!

Hey Trev, I'm in Montreal, where are you ?
You seem to be in the know on Emco's.
What models of Emco were available with a mill axis ?
I'm looking to make some small hexes in one op.
Pretty funny watching the two of you BTW
Hugh
I'm in Cold Lake, Alberta.
I'll reply in your other thread.
