    Default emco vmc 100

So I got an emco vmc 100 and although I have been doing this for almost 30 years this one is well a learning curve to say the least SO lets get to it
    x axis moves the wrong way +is - and - is +
    y axis moves the wrong way +is - and - is +
z axis moves the right way
so I took the drives out flipped the dip switch and x &y homed the wrong way (they home right with the dip switch as per manual )
so I put it back as per the manual and it homes right but the two axis are still reversed so that leads me to believe its in the MSD .....now there is the questions
    1. can I just change something in there to make them move the right way
    2. what do I change
    3. do I have to put the whole MSD back in or can you just change one parameter at a time?
    4. how do you back it up to the tape
I know its a lot of questions but I have a small production job to run on this and would appreciate any and all help to sort this out .....I wont even ask how to load it with hyper terminal yet
thanks to any and all that can help me

When you say the X & Y move the wrong way, please clarify...
Are you referring to using JOG or programmed movements?
The TM02 jog buttons on my machine are not labelled + or - but if you are referring to the direction the table moves when you jog using the arrow keys, then the table will (correctly) move in the opposite direction than the arrow keys. In fact if you are using programmed movements or jog movements the result should be the same.... BUT you have to think about where the spindle is relative to the workpiece. Even though the spindle is really stationary on x & y, if you imagine that you are moving the spindle right (+) or left (-) it will make more sense... (eg. an X+ movement results in the table movement to the left).
Z on the other hand is more obvious, Z+ is always up but that is because the head is moving, if it were a knee-mill like a Bridgeport the Z+ would result in the table lowering (unless it was using the quill)

when i use the jog keys they are as follows
left arrow moves x to the right
right arrow moves x to the left
bottom diag. button moves y to the back
top diag button moves y to the front
    up arrow moves z up
    down arrow moves z down
    giving it a
    g00 x + 25.4 moves to the left
    g00 x -25.4 moves to the right
g00 y+25.4 moves to the front
    g00 y - 25.4 moves to the back

From what you describe, the machine is functioning correctly.
Don't think about which way the table is moving, the movements are always the spindle location based on the Cartesian coordinates you have programmed relative to the your set program zero (G54)

It is a parameter issue I think
