Brass build up on cutting edge

Hi,
I am having trouble with brass build up on my first cut. It makes removing the slug very difficult. Does anyone know what causes this?

I may have found a solution! I was using equal upper and lower flush pressure on 1" D-2. Now I'm using higher pressure on the lower guide, it seems to help. I also raised the upper guide to about .030 above the work piece. I'm learning this machine on my own with the aid of a old Sodick manual. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I've had this happen when the conductivity of the water is way off, or if my ground or power cables are starting to go bad.

Agreed, we have a machine that has a broken lower power cable at the moment and we get it when we shove a good few handfuls of amps through a workpiece..

The conductivity is running about 10 and the cables have maybe 500 hrs on them. Is there a way to test cables? They look ok.

We have Mitz's here, but whenever we have the brass buildup problem it has always been either bad ground or power cables, as others have mentioned.

We've never been able to find a reliable test for the the cables. They check the same either new or old (bad).

You could try just removing the connections, cleaning them very well and reattaching them. A bad connection sometimes doesn't show much, but it's bad nonetheless.

Sometimes on our Sodicks this happens when the conductivity pads are worn out. The carbide ones that send the power to the wire.
