install problems

Have a group trying to install Edgecam for an educational seminar and several members can't intstall and are getting "sql server" type errors.
laptops are all different some vista, some xp.
I think Edgecam Ver. 12.5
any help appreciated

Here are some general guidelines when installing Edgecam.

1. Ensure the user has Administrator rights.
2. Ensure that Windows is up to date (all major updates are installed).
3. Ensure that the video card drivers are up to date.
4. For Windows Vista, disable UAC (Control Panel ► User Accounts ► Turn User Account Control On or Off)

If you are having problems getting Edgecam to install and are having SQL issues, try using the 'Custom' installation option. Selecting Custom (as opposed to Typical or Compact) will show you additional information when SQL is being installed.

If by chance you cannot install the instance of ECSQLEXPRESS (maybe SQL Express is already installed?) you may need to uninstall MSXML 6 SP2. (Having MSXML 6 SP2 installed protects and locks SQL files that need to be written by ECSQLEXPRESS). In order to uninstall MSXML 6 SP2 you must use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
