There are a couple of ways you could do it.

The first way would be to setup your parts with fixturing inside of your CAD package.

Secondly, if you have the vice as a solid model, bring it into Edgecam and then line it up so that the CPL is in the correct location. This will be considered your "mating CPL". You can then specify the fixture as a fixture (using the Geometry > Stock/Fixture command) and then save it as a PPF file.

You could then insert this PPF file into any model (using the File > Insert > Component command), given that the width of the jaws is okay. You could setup multiple jaws like this.

In order to make all of this into one button you would need to make a macro, (called a PCI file).

To make a PCI:
  1. You can do this by turning the command record on, (Custom > Command Save On)
  2. Perform the actions of inserting your jaws into the file (it is recording the commands you are telling it at this time)
  3. Turn the recording off to save the PCI (Custom > Command Save Off).

Now that the command is saved to a file, you can make it into a button.
  1. Customize your view (View > Customise)
  2. Click on the Tools tab
  3. Click New (looks like a folder) and specify a name (ex. Insert Vise)
  4. Click the ... next to the Command line, browse to the file location on where the PCI file has been saved, select the file and click Open.
  5. Click Close.
  6. Congratulations you just created a custom command.
  7. Go back to View > Customise.
  8. On the Commands tab, scroll down in the Categories section and select Custom.
  9. In the right frame, scroll down until you see your newly created custom command (Insert Vise).
  10. Drag and drop this command into a toolbar.
  11. Right-click on your newly created button and select Button Appearance in order to customize the name or appearance of the button, or switch it to text only.

It seems like a lot, but once you do it the first time it gets easier from there. Remember to save or update your profile so you don't accidentally erase your buttons.

Also, you can find 3D models of vises on various sites such as http://kurtworkholding.com/downloads.php

Good luck.

Regards,
Jeremiah

Apparently the people at www.ambotech.com know how, so why not contact them? I would imagine they can supply you with the PCI to create the vice and tell you how to add the button to your button bar.

Thanks for the instructions jstikelaether that's just what I was looking for.

The vice and the vice body are part of pci freeware file. the file is inserted to edgecam/cam/pci and when you want to use it you select custom , extras , insert a solid vice , on the design side of edgecam. then you pick weather you want a small vice or a large vice, which axis the vice is to follow , digitize a point where the part and solid jaw will meet, and another point for the opening of the movable jaw.
The file only uses 2 default vices and it would be better if you could add other vices to the pci. drawing the vices isn't a problem, would you know how read the pci to add other vices so that the program would have a larger selection of vices if a person had the drawings?

I ve attached the file to the post let me know if it works properly

It works I use the same one all the time. how about strategy manager anybody use it? I have started writing strategies and it sure saves a hell of lot of time when doing similar parts. It will program itself and it is only 2500 for the add on.
